A woman was hit and killed by a car Saturday in Toms River, Toms River Police said in a statement.
Cheryl Cwiklik, a 45-year-old resident, was struck while she was walking across the intersection of Routes 166 and 37 with her husband Saturday night, Toms River Police Department spokeswoman Jillian Messina said.
Police officers were called around 11 p.m. State troopers arrived first, and they and other emergency responders performed CPR, but Cwiklik was later pronounced dead at the nearby Community Medical Center.
According to witnesses, when the pair began to cross Route 37, the traffic signal for Route 37 east/west had just changed to green.
The driver, Charles Jordan, was also transported to Community Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries before being released.
An investigation is ongoing.
