Three ancient Sifrei Torah were taken From the Ezra-Abrishmi Jewish Community Center in Tehran this past week.

The building serves as the center formthe local Jewish community, including a Shul, a kosher restaurant, a mikveh, and educational institutions.

Word of the incident got out thanks to a traveler from London, who visited a few days ago the shul and was in contact with members of the Iranian community. They told him about the importance of the sifrei Torah, saying at this point it is not clear whether the motive was criminal or anti-Semitic.

Additionally, due to concerns that the sifrei Torah will be smuggled out of the country, due to their extremely high value, the Iranian border police is actively involved.
