Texas Sanctions Airbnb Over Israel Boycott

The state of Texas has blacklisted the global vacation rental company Airbnb over its delisting of Jewish rentals in Judea and Samaria.

As of Friday, Airbnb is included on the state comptroller’s “list of companies that boycott Israel pursuant to Chapter 808 of the Texas government code,” which prohibits investment in companies that boycott Israel.”

“We unequivocally reject and oppose the BDS movement and are disappointed by the [Texas] decision,” the statement read. “There are over 20,000 Airbnb hosts in Israel who open their doors and showcase the best of Israeli hospitality to guests from around the world, which boosts local families, businesses and communities.”

About a Month ago, Florida blacklisted Airnbnb due to their anti-Israel policies as well. At the time The Governor of a Florida said “Airbnb made a conscious decision to discriminate against the Jewish people, and as governor I have an obligation to oppose policies that unfairly target the world’s only Jewish state and our greatest ally in the Middle East,” DeSantis said. “Our action today solidifies the State of Florida’s resolve to stand with Israel, and if Airbnb does not denounce their previous policy of discrimination we may be compelled to explore additional action.”

According to the Texas protocol, Airbnb has 90 days from the time it was added to the list to stop boycotting Israel. Otherwise, the state of Texas will “sell, redeem, divest, or withdraw all publicly traded securities of [Airbnb,] except [indirect holdings in actively or passively managed investment funds or private equity funds],” whose managers will nevertheless be urged to remove Airbnb from their funds.

In a statement, Airbnb said they are “disapointed by the decision.”

“Our community of hosts in Israel has already welcomed more than 1 million guests and we will continue to invest in Israel,” the statement added.

A Jewish version of Airbnb was recently launched by Tzvi Arnstein, founder of nextbracket.io,called koshnb.com to counter these policies and to give the people of Yehuda & Shomron a chance to keep renting out their units.
