The Senate voted 59-41 on Thursday to terminate President Trump’s national emergency declaration for the southern border, setting up the first veto battle with his White House.

12 Republicans joined together with all 45 Democrats and 2 Independent Senators to support the resolution, which President Trump has promised to veto.

The same measure passed the House last month, 245-182.

However, neither chamber has the necessary votes to overturn the veto, which requires a full 2/3 of each chamber.
