A man walking along the Garden State Parkway Tuesday was killed after he was struck by a vehicle, police say.
William Swenson, 55, of Beachwood, was reportedly walking in the southbound travel lanes between exits 80 and 81 after midnight when he was struck.
The crash was reported at 12:12 a.m. on the Garden State Parkway at milepost 81.7 in Toms River, police said. A Chevy Tahoe was traveling south at that location when it struck a pedestrian who was walking in the travel lane.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the Tahoe is cooperating with the investigation.
The left and center lanes were closed for approximately 2 hours.
