Judge Bans Man From Drinking Pepsi

A Hawaii judge is prohibiting a man convicted of car theft from drinking Pepsi, his favorite soft drink, while he is on probation.

Second Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo imposed the restriction on Christopher Montilliano Jr. after the defendant told her about his love for Pepsi during a sentencing hearing last week, The Maui News reported.

“It’s the Pepsi deprivation syndrome,” Loo told Montilliano, who pleaded no contest to charges of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and driving without a license.

Loo said during the sentencing hearing that Montilliano lied to police when he was arrested. Montilliano told officers at the time that he was driving his cousin’s car and that he was on his way to the store to buy soda.

“I’ve heard a lot of people addicted to meth. I’ve heard a lot of people addicted to alcohol,” Loo said during the hearing, according to The Maui News.

“I’m not going to steal cars anymore,” Montilliano told the judge, according to The Associated Press. “I don’t want to be in jail no more.”

In addition to four years of probation, Loo reportedly sentenced Montilliano to 100 hours of community service and a $100 fine.
