President Trump’s former chief of staff John Kelly said on Wednesday that a border wall spanning the entire U.S.-Mexico border would be a “waste of money.”
“We don’t need a wall from sea to shining sea,” Kelly said during a public interview at Duke University, according to Politico.
Kelly also noted that there are areas along the southern border where steel barriers would be necessary, but rejected Trump’s assertion that migrants coming to the southern border are criminals.
“They’re overwhelmingly not criminals,” Kelly said. “They’re people coming up here for economic purposes. I don’t blame them for that.”
