Avi Gabbay, chairman of Israel’s Labor Party, has announced that he is leaving politics after just two years as the party’s leader, and the scramble has begun to replace him with the party at an all-time low in mandates and morale.

Times of Israel said once again reports proliferated over the weekend that former prime minister Ehud Barak was mulling the formation of a new political party to run in September’s second elections of 2019.

The reports said Barak, who twice served as leader of the Labor party, would seek to form a bloc including his prospective party and Labor.
