First Republican signs the assault weapons ban


The NY Daily News reports An assault weapons ban that Democratic leaders have been reluctant to advance despite strong support among their rank-and-file members in the House just got its first Republican backer — Long Island Rep. Pete King.

“I think the assault weapons ban is timely now, especially in view of the shooting in El Paso and Dayton,” he told the Daily News.

“Enough is enough,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and GOP Rep. Peter King, both of New York, said two weeks ago during a press conference in front of a Long Island Wal MAt store where they called for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to take up House bill on universal federal gun purchase background checks.
