California Terror Plot Busted

Federal law enforcement said Monday they thwarted an alleged terror plot involving several targets in the Los Angeles area, according to a federal official.

The man — described as a former member of the U.S. military who converted to Islam — had discussed setting off explosives at the Santa Monica pier and on area freeways, according to multiple law enforcement sources.

The suspect, who allegedly voiced support for ISIS, was under surveillance for weeks after he posted online messages lamenting the killing of Muslims at mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Officials are expected to discuss the disruption of the plot Monday afternoon at a news conference in which the U.S. attorney’s office for the Central District of California and the LAPD are also expected to participate in.
